Cresciuto sopra il caffè dei genitori nel cuore del West End londinese, Cat Stevens emerge dalla scena dei club folk per pubblicare nel 1967 il suo album di debutto, "Matthew & Son". L'album raggiunse la posizione #7 della Classifica UK inglese sostenuto dai singoli "I Love My Dog" e "Matthew & Son" grazie ai quali diventò l’idolo dei teenager. Contemporaneamente, le canzoni di Cat venivano registrate da altri artisti, come i The Tremoloes, che ottennero un successo con "Here Comes My Baby", sempre nel 1967, operazione che contribuì a consolidare la sua reputazione di Cat Stevens come straordinario cantautore.
