The Queen Is Dead è il terzo album in studio del gruppo rock inglese The Smiths, pubblicato il 16 giugno 1986 dalla Rough Trade Records. L'album è stato prodotto dal cantante del gruppo, Morrissey, e dal loro chitarrista, Johnny Marr, lavorando prevalentemente con l'ingegnere Stephen Street, che aveva progettato il precedente album degli Smiths, Meat Is Murder (1985). Marr scrisse diverse canzoni mentre gli Smiths erano in tournée in Gran Bretagna all'inizio del 1985, elaborando gli arrangiamenti con il bassista Andy Rourke e il batterista Mike Joyce durante i soundcheck. Il titolo dell'album è tratto dal romanzo del 1964 dello scrittore americano Hubert Selby Jr. Last Exit to Brooklyn. La copertina raffigura l'attore francese Alain Delon nel film L'Insoumis del 1964.
