Il 1967 è stato un anno frenetico per Johnny Cash e l'anno successivo fu segnato da quello che sarebbero diventati i suoi due album iconici di maggiore incasso AT FOLSOM PRISON e AT SAN QUENTIN. Ma ora, dopo oltre cinquant'anni, è emerso del materiale in archivio che completa il successo di quell'annata.JOHNNY CASH AT THE CAROUSEL BALLROOM è stato registrato il 24 aprile 1968 dal grande Owsley Bear Stanley che la rende una delle sue performance più significative. La registrazione cattura Johnny Cash all'apice dei suoi poteri carismatici, che si allontana con sicurezza dalla scaletta formale che stava eseguendo e lo sentiamo in un dialogo giocoso e potente con la sua nuova sposa June Carter e i suoi musicisti di lunga data, il chitarrista Luther Perkins, il bassista Marshall Grant e il batterista W.S. Holland.
