Dopo aver suonato il loro secondo concerto a Woodstock nell'agosto del 1969, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash e Neil Young trascorsero il resto dell'anno in tour e scrivendo canzoni per quello che sarebbe diventato il debutto della CSNY nel 1970, DÉJÀ VU. Una registrazione multitraccia recentemente scoperta del concerto della band del 20 settembre 1969 allo storico Fillmore East di New York City cattura un momento iniziale di quel primo tour.
