Questo è l’esordio dell’ensemble che, sotto il nome di Crusaders, avrebbe in futuro mietuto grandi successi nell’ambito soul jazz. Ma qui siamo nel 1961, e la cifra stilistica è quella del miglior hard bop (quello dei Jazz Messengers): il tono scuro e roccioso dell’impasto del sassofono tenore di Wilton Felder e del trombone di Wayne Henderson conta sulla ritmica di Joe Sample al piano, Jimmy Bond al contrabbasso e ‘Stix' Hopper alla batteria. Ospite Roy Gaines alla chitarra.
