Dieci anni fa, nel 2012, Robert Glasper cambiò le regole del gioco. Dopo diversi acclamati album per Blue Note che avevano consolidato la sua meritata fama di musicista jazz, sia pure con un occhio allo Hip-Hop, il visionario pianista svelò Black Radio, un album che fissava un nuovo paradigma per la musica creativa a venire, tracciando rotte e abbattendo frontiere nel dare vita ad una nuova e originale visione, in grado di abbracciare tutti gli aspetti e le correnti della black music (e non solo…).
Protagonista la Experiment band con Casey Benjamin al sax ed al vocoder, Derrick Hodge al basso e Chris Dave alla batteria, nell’album appariva anche una sorta di appello “ad alta voce” di ospiti davvero speciali: Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey, Lupe Fiasco, Bilal, Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello – e altri.
Black Radio avrebbe debuttato piazzandosi in ben quattro Billboard chart, risultando in testa nella classifica Jazz, quarto nella chart R&B/Hip-Hop, e piazzandosi 15° nella Top 200. La ciliegina finale fu pochi mesi dopo, quando ai Grammy® Award conquistò anche il premio come Best R&B Album.
Ora la 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition restituisce Black Radio in una versione che si espande su 3 LP in cui compare l’album originale arricchito da tre bonus track mai finora pubblicate su vinile, più il remix EP Black Radio Recovered che vedeva ulteriori contributi firmati ?uestlove, Solange, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder…
