SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON è il settimo album in studio e pubblicato l'11 aprile 1988.Si tratta di un concept album incentrato su poteri mistici.È caratterizzato da sonorità che a tratti ricordano il rock progressivo.In molti brani sono presenti accompagnamenti di tastiere ma in generale predomina la guitar synth, tutti elementi che portano un distacco della band dal loro spirito heavy metal.Nel 1995 la EMI ripubblica l'album con l'aggiunta di un secondo CD che racchiude i singoli b-sideCan I Play with Madness, The Evil That Men Do e The Clairvoyant.
