Oceanside Countryside è l'ultimo dei grandi album perduti di Neil Young ad essere pubblicato come parte della sua Analog Original Series (AOS). L'album è stato registrato da maggio a dicembre 1977, prima dell'uscita di Comes A Time nel 1978. I due album condividono lo stesso suono country/folk e tre canzoni ("Goin' Back", "Human Highway" e "Field of Opportunity) appaiono su entrambi gli album.
L'uscita in vinile di Oceanside Countryside include alcuni brani presenti sul CD omonimo in Neil Young's Archives Vol. III. Tuttavia, questa lista di tracce corrisponde al modo in cui Oceanside Countryside era stato originariamente pianificato per essere pubblicato e finalmente sarà reso disponibile su vinile per la prima volta in assoluto. Registrati su nastro, questi sono i mix originali eseguiti al momento della registrazione.

Ho cantato e suonato gli strumenti a Oceanside, in Florida, ai Triad Studios e a Malibu, all'Indigo Studio. Ho cantato e registrato con la mia fantastica band di amici al Crazy Mama's di Nashville in Countryside. Spero che questo tesoro di una registrazione analogica originale vi piaccia tanto quanto piace a me.

Da tener presente che mentre le canzoni di Oceanside Countryside appaiono su Archives Vol.III, le versioni non sono sempre le stesse e l'elenco delle tracce in questo disco è l'ordine di esecuzione dell'album originale Oceanside Countryside. In questa versione analogica in vinile originale, le versioni di "Lost in Space", "Captain Kennedy" e "The Old Homestead" provengono da Hawks & Doves nel 1980. "Sail Away", "Goin' Back", "Human Highway", "It Might Have Been" e "Pocahontas" sono le stesse versioni di Archives Vol. III in digitale. "Field of Opportunity" e "Dance Dance Dance" sono versioni originali che hanno Young come cori invece di Nicolette Larson come apparivano su Archives Vol.III.
Tutte le canzoni di Oceanside sono eseguite da Neil Young. In Countryside Young è accompagnato da una band di suoi amici: Ben Keith (Steel Guitar), Rufus Thibodeaux (violino), Karl T. Himmel (batteria), Joe Osborne (basso). In "The Old Homestead" Tim Drummond suona il basso e Levon Helm suona la batteria. "Pocahontas" è l'assolo di Young.
